You know a lot of “witchcraft trials” were about women who were in the time period equivalent of mom church groups who did Bible study and talked about the role of women. And something about “women can’t be preachers! Banish her! Hang her for witchcraft”

My favorite example of this is Mary Dyer. She moved to this Boston colony from England. Had some issues with her pregnancy and because of superstition people didn’t like her for that so she went back to England for a few years. She moved back to Boston as a Quaker and because quakers were seen as religious extremists with ideals that go against the culture, she was arrested and then banished. She practically immediately broke her banishment with an attitude that screams “what are they gonna do? Banish me again? Im already banished.” And the response was “boom you’re banished again. And if you come back we’ll kill you.” And she wanted to be a martyr because anti Quaker laws are bs so of course she came back. and she was instantly sent to be hung. And with the rope literally around her neck the people were like “come on, Mary. Just go away and you won’t be executed” so they banished her again. And guess what happened next. She went back the following year and who’d of thunk it they were for realsies this time and she hung. Shawty was banished like 3 times. She was in and out of Boston like a motherfucker
