I like creating your own character in games. It is one of the reasons why I liked games like Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 in the past.

There are 4 things i like about Sonic Forces: The modern Sonic gameplay, the Avatar, the soundtrack and the visuals.

Modern Sonic's gameplay is easilybthe best of the top three in the game. Yeah... I know Drift and Lightspeed Dash were taken away, but it still controls well and is fun to play.

The Avatar was a great idea. Being able to create your own character and customize it to your liking makes the experience pleasant. It is also very funny how your Avatar interacts with other characters in the cutscenes.

The soundtrack is undoubtedly the best of the game (as in every Sonic game, if we ignore Sonic Chronicles of course), Fist Bump, the Infinite's theme, the Metal Sonic Boss theme, the Imperial Tower theme and Final Boss theme they are all very great.

The visuals section of Forces is beatiful. It shows that they made a great effort to present us with very well done stages with great detail. Sunset Heights, Metropolis, Mortal Canyon and Egg Gate are some of my favorite stages in the game.

Thank you for saying this. While I’ll always agree 100% that Forces was a missed opportunity and was mid - I still have a huge soft spot for it. Forces was the dream sonic game I really wanted so much because of the concepts, it’s soundtrack (fav in the series tbh), the themes and how the story was envisioned to be before we sadly got the real thing. I was rooting for the game pre-launch to be my #1 Sonic game so much but it didn’t happen. I full standby with y’all that Sonic Team should never ever repeat the mistakes they made in this game, but there’s so much hidden gems in this game that I love behind this coal dump. Avatar and it’s replay-ability to get all those amazing cosmetics will at least be the thing that Forces is known for.

It’s hard to be a somewhat Forces fan without getting slandered and still agreeing with all of its criticism. If 06 can be redeemed through the fans via P-06 (which I also was a fan of 06 when it too was heavily slandered), then I’m sure Forces can also be redeemed in some form too from re-imagined and the overclocked mod (which hot dang, sunset heights reimagined is incredibly fire and what I hoped that level was originally)

I agree, the Custom Avatar is a cool idea "In Theory" but here are my problems with its execution.

1. It was stated that the intention for this game was to "Please all Sonic fans". With the introduction of a custom character you'd think they'd take this opportunity to bring back the Heroes gimic. Sure some have small passives and different abilities but none of them feel substantial. They could've had multiple species split up under the categories of speed, flight, and power. Have multiple pathways and collectibles that require different types to access. When you're done the game can then allow you to make an avatar with a different type and switch through multiple through new game ➕. This assuming Forces has more open levels with collectibles in them that mattered. It Doesn't.


2. There's not enough variety of species. We get one bird and the rest are mamals. At the very least give us one reptile.

3. All of the animals have the same body type. Whats the point of letting us be a bear when it's small and skinny like all the rest. Bear, dog, cat, and hedgehog are so similar there's barely a point in choosing between them. Just look at the comics and fan art. Differect species with multiple builds, heights, and features. HELL, the games have this in the form of Vector and Bark.

4. This is something that doesn't really matter that much and I 100% admit that it's just a personal gripe of mine. If you're going to attempt to make a "Serious" story give us more cloths that suit the tone and setting of the story and not so many goofy one's. Again, assuming they committed to this tone which they didn't.

5. The way the avatar is used in the story is terrible but I'm gonna chalk that up to the writing.

Oh yes, I agree. Finally a video about this part of the game!. I personally think that the main fault of this game is that it cannot concentrate. As a result, we have a game without focus ... To be honest, if the Avatar in the game was only the only playable character, and Sonic was a partner. The game would be better.

honestly agreed. A great feature used in a bad game. but I'd love to see it appear in future games, though I wish the customisation was (and becomes) more in-depth, having things like like options for legwear, having shirts and jackets as separate features, more body types and fur detail options (for stuff like head shape, mouthpieces, tail etc.), having more hairstyles and making them separate from headwear, different stat options for new gameplay styles, a colour wheel, and more species (as examples).

Then again, some people like to design funny looking characters which is honestly fair and I find them hilarious too, but i also love to make really great designs for characters :)

I've also had the idea of replacing wisp with chao such that the way you raise your chao determines what type it becomes i.e: Lazer, drill, rocket, spikes e.t.c.

This can help the player in the game.

Ok, so... I have an idea

1. Bring back chaos drives from defeating enemies
2. Introduce a shop, similar to the black market in SA2
3. Have the ability to trade the chaos drives for rings or even use the chaos drives themselves to purchase items from the shop. Maybe have the rings be used to purchase regular items and some customisable options and have the drives used to purchase some special items, clothes that give you extra abilities, perks, something
4. Also maybe do something with the red rings, idk

The customization here and in Colors Ultimate were great. I hope they bring it back with more depth. I just wish Forces has an actual incentive to relay the levels.

I actually really like the Avatar concept and gameplay, specially cut it has a lot of variety and they tried to be creative with its abilities. The customization was also pretty cool, and the songs of their stagers we’re pretty good mostly. In the end, it’s not perfect, but I had a lot of fun with it. I think if they focused only on Modern Sonic and the Avatar, forces would be a lot better imo.

Yeah, I agree. I gotta admit, the Avatar is kinda fun (I said KINDA, by the way), especially using some of the Wispons.

The Avatar's customization is good too, but.. it could've been better.

I LOVE games with customizable characters! Whether or not they serve as a side gimmick or help the story of a game, customization to fuel immersion is awesome.

And I kinda like fighting and hanging alongside your favorite game characters. And in Forces' case, you're hanging with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Don't lie to yourself saying you WOULDN'T want to hang out with our blue boi.

Honestly, I'd play an entire Sonic spin-off game based around the Avatar feature. Like, you don't play as Sonic, just as your avatar. Forces already uses basically all of the buttons, so what can be done with all of the new ones you free up by getting rid of Sonic? You could add customizable abilities, get rid of the Wispon special limits and have that as a swappable platforming tool via the D-Pad. You can maybe do some kind of additional, non-Wisp ability via the freed up boost button (spindash, flight, some type of power move, that kind of stuff). Heck, maybe you could even save up rings via the levels for more Avatar gear, and maybe even bring in a Chao Buddy feature that you could also customize.

All this and more if Sega actually gives enough of a shit.

The Avatar customisation in Sonic Forces has so many options to make a unique character, I hope they get put into a new game eventually, with even more options. The customisation in Sonic Colours Ultimate obvious had to be more limited, I hope they keep it in Sonic Frontiers and add victory animations, bracelets, hats, and different types of shoes.
