Old VCRs had to be manually tuned to each local channel. So if this was done on a dead channel, no one using a VCR to watch TV would have even seen the broadcasts, unless they manually tried to tune it in while the broadcast was taking place.

When I was 10 or 11 someone buried a 2X4 with a huge nail in it under the sand of a play ground with the nail sticking up. In retrospect this was a deliberate act clearly designed to injure some random child. It was placed in the aria a child would land in after jumping off a structure.
Fortunately I was that random child. Why would I think impaling my foot on a nail was lucky? Well, clearly if it was my foot that was impaled it was not some other random child that impaled their foot. Do you see now? No? Well, in case you didn't know, I have a fake leg. Meaning I had a fake foot. It was lucky it was my right foot as it was the one foot out of I don't even know how many other kids that would not be hurt by having a nail driven through it.
Out of all the kids I went to school with I was the only leg amputee. I did go to school with an arm amputee but she was in 9th grade when I was in 11th, and she transferred to another school the following year.
So, I know for a fact that very unlikely things happen all the time.
And i know of at least three cases where a married couple either met, or nearly met years before they met and fell in love.
In one case a guy was looking through a photo album of his wife's family when he was shocked to see his father in the back ground of his wife's family at Disneyland, pushing him in a stroller.
In another case a couple who said, when they had met, it felt like they had known each other all their lives, even though they met in their 20's.
Turned out they hadn't met for the first time when they were 22. They had met at age 2, on a beach. There was a picture found in a photo album of both when they were two, playing in the sand at the beach.
