You can do tests online that ask you about 70 words and then estimate the size of your vocabulary. I'm a native English speaker and I did two tests. I got 23, 600 words and 36, 000 words. The latter result represents about 60% of the total words in English. I got 25, 000 in Spanish (I'm sure that this is an overestimate) and 4400 in French.
