My very loved and Beloved Dad absolutely loved this particular song! He died in 2010, but I know that in his Afterlife he's best friends with " Wildfire", she doesn't die and they ride happily together cocooned in a beautiful Aura of pure love and true happiness! 😃 I dedicate today's listening of this song to my wonderful Dad whom I love and cherish " Forever" !

A sad, sad, song. I always have to balance the joy of listening to it against the melancholy it induces.

A lovely ghost story that has captivated me ever since I was a child in the 70s

This song reminds me of the summer of 1980, during which I went up to the Allegheny National Forest around the Marienville & Russell City, Pennsylvania areas every weekend from May to October. I even spent the last week of May & the first week of September up there. I slept in the back of my truck (I had a cap on it), used a Coleman stove to cook, used a Coleman lantern for light, & I carried a .357 magnum for protection. I was 25 then. Definitely, the summer of 1980 was my “golden summer”, a summer that I’ll always remember. I had “hard times” (due to a friend that was deceitful) from January-mid May of 1980, and more hard times (woman trouble) that started in October of 1980. The summer of 1980 was a HUGE blessing for me.

I’ve always loved this song and thought it would be fun to hear again. As soon as he sang ..on a cold Nebraska night…the tears began to fall. My beloved brother lived in Nebraska and died there last year. We were both kids at home with mom and dad when this song came out. Now it’s will always be his. Love you, bro!

Tough song to grasp. A life of hard times and desperation. Someone hoping for a better after life than the life here on earth.

BREATH TAKING!!! Great amazing song, I was born 1976 and grew up with 80's, 90's songs. To me, there's nothing like 50's - 80's, best songs ever recorded and now a days we find crap music. This song specially, is filled with sadness, melancholy and inspiration that makes you miss those already found in the after life. I've had dogs, birds that have died and this song brings back the sadness of losing great family members and even pets of the family. What a sad story since I've researched and found out it was inspired on a "REAL EVENT"! The amazing sentiment and voice makes this song just perfect, ; perfect voice, perfect melancholic touch for such a SAD STORY SONG.

This inspiration, the beat and melancholy of the song somehow reminds me of Elvi's song, "Cold Kentucky Rain"!

What an amazing music of the past. Vintage is always better than the new.
