I am so excited. I just bought this 1999 boat with 4.3. Started up and ran great in Lake Havasu in 109 degree heat. Choke not operating at all. With the video helping me adjust the choke I may be back in business. Thank You

thank god I came across ur video... had a mechanic screw with my carb. 3 times cause there was just enuff of a leak drip of gas in an odd spot that they couldn't figure out where it was coming from.. so I followed the slow moving line that was removing the crap black paint, which led me to the choke not opening and closing smoothly at all, and then led me to adjusting the float that was also off..

Good video. Thank you for posting. Have you done one on adjusting the mixture screws on the same Mercarb?

So when engines at operating temp the choke plate should be fully open correct?

What if after doing this the choke plates swing freely again?

Hi Mike's thanks for your video. when I start the engine cold on my Mercruiser 3.0 the throttle plate is closed as it should be but as the engine warms up the throttle plate only opens about halfway to full vertical. I can move the throttle plate full open quite easily with my finger but the electric choke never gets it past about half way to vertical . Does this indicate that I need a new electric choke assembly?

MIKE
My mercruiser 3.0 just started to bog out when I have it full throttle, it doesn't happen immediately, and it also is starting to diesel. how do you know when to rebuild?

I just bought the boat and I live in 100 plus heat. The choke is not working at all. I have to use starter fluid or manually close the barrel to start. The barrel stays open. So I just adjust the choke like this and it should start?

Mike, thanks for the informative videos. I have a question regarding the throttle lever on the left hand side of the video. Mine does not have a tab that interfaces with the idle cam. Upon researching, I've seen some with and without this extension. Could you please clarify what configuration is correct? Thanks! You know your stuff!

what about using a 5/64" drill bit to set the gap on the choke plate per the mercruiser service manual?

The problem I'm having is that engine cuts out at low RPMs and won't idle, when its up to speed runs great just can't seem to get it to idle without dying. I've adjusted it and seems like nothing helps. It does smell like its running rich and dumping gas but when I try and adjust it doesn't seem to help

Can I install one of these in place of a Holley 2bbl on my 3.0 using a standard Holley to Rochester 2bbl adapter? Thanks

What activates the choke? Does it always have 12V when the key is on? My boat puts out black smoke when I start it up. Ran great for about an hour, shut it down for about 5 minutes and it won't stay running more than a few seconds. I'm wondering if the choke Is closed on a warm engine
