This is an quick and easy guide how to enable native 4K all the time on your Sony Xperia XZ Premium

NOTE: if your dialer crashes, install a 3rd party launcher and set it to default.

Change Resolution and DPI (back to default)

- Type "adb shell"
- Type "wm size 1080×1920"
- Type "wm density 403"

Haven't read all comments, so this could already have been said, but for the adb driver for the phone to install you may have to turn on tethering the first time. Also, full 4K has issues with the in call dialer crashing (and not being able to answer or hang up calls). Running at 1890x3360, 706dpi is completely stable. Several other apps are more stable with this setting as well. And, it still jumps to full 4K in the designated apps, though the change is far more subtle than when it is running the standard 1080.

Damir thanks! I have did it on my phone and seriously man, it is absurdly super good. I don't think I can return to a phone with resolution lower than 4K anymore.

Did it. Text is sharper, however thats the only advantage, and you have to really lean in to see the difference. Other than that there are a few scaling bugs and gaming performance issues. Battery has taken a 15% hit and there are some frame drops while scrolling fast. Considering that the display is adaptive and it switches to 4K resolution whenever an image/video of that resolution is detected (such as photos or videos in youtube/amazon/etc) AND the fact that like the Z5 premium, it upscales sub 4K videos to 4K in youtube (not sure about netflix, amazon, hbo go, etc), i find very little justification to get marginally clearer text at the expense of battery, performance (especially 3d) and some annoying scaling bugs throughout the UI.

Well the last Sony update forced 4K at all times and yes the text is clearer, but I reverted back to 1080p as my battery life has been terrible since and this is something I need more than the quality of the text. But either way just update your phone and you don't have to go through all the hassle which is in this video. Oh by the way his DPI are still for the FULL HD, with the official update it shows 803 DPI -) Which in my opinion is an overkill for such a small screen, but nice to have for pics and videos.

I've tried it on my Z5 Premium, and yeah it was noticeable sharper than before and it looked just awesome. Social apps, mail apps and browsing on chrome looked great, however some native sony apps did not support 4k resolution so I had to switch back to 1080p. btw youtube was giving me the 1440p option.

For those who cant find your device, you have to download your phone´s driver first, then install it with the adb installer and then it will work.

You should include a tutorial to return the resolution back to the original 1920x1080, just in case someone wants to send it in for warranty. Kinda neat but not really worth it unless your using it for VR, text is sharper but only every so slighty but hey I guess if you buy a 4K smartphone then why not use it right?
