I wasn't sure about this game until the first boss fight. The tension that builds from the soundtrack is perfect. As you progress the boss, more and more layers from the track get added. That was the bait... and I took it. And when the vocals got triggered and the boss started ripping my first group apart, I realized the game had set the hook so deep into me, I wasn't going to let it go. Now, that soundtrack is a part of my Spotify playlist, and I'm still playing this game. Well done guys!

The Story in this is ridiculously good. Like out of 90's era or something. Completely gold compare to today standards. The setting, art style and atmosphere is fantastic, that alone should made you play this alone :-)

My Shieldbearer named Mercy just killed a worm and Mother said "No Mercy". Thought I'd tell you all. Should I scold her?

I picked up this game today. I'd been following it since its announcement, waiting for its release. I'm only on day 3 of my very first run. I've already had to sacrifice a Daughter. And even when she was only level 2, that weight of the loss you are forced to inflict on your roster hits hard. I know I shouldn't get emotionally attached to the Daughters I know will eventually die horribly or be sacrificed by my hand, but I think that's the point. I'm less than an hour into the game, and it's already on its way to possibly become my game of the year. I am absolutely floored by how stunningly beautiful it already is, and I've barely started. To the developers, I say well done. Thank you for gracing us with this beautiful game. Expect this comment to be updated when I eventually beat it, emerging as a broken man, a shell of my former self.

Long comment here I'm sorry, so the short of it is I love this game, I'm so glad Focus Interactive and Lightbulb crew made it, and it has emotionally hit me in so many ways.

I am near the end of Othercide now, and I have loved every moment. Every person involved in its creation has my respect for crafting something so damn fun, challenging, and deep. Each revelation of the bosses gave me a sense of fear and intrigue as I wondered how to unravel them. Not just how to beat them but their minds and roles. Reading the codex and every new memory gave me an odd sense that I was truly completing something. Not just collecting trophies for a game, like I really was finding the story and grasping the true gravity of all around me and what led up to it. Every piece of music, from the pumped up track in the first boss to the rush of strings as multiple enemies spawn at once, feels perfect for the situation. I was always surprised, but at the same time always satisfied. All the battles I've had were tense and tough, but fair. The rush of enemies with their own patterns, behaviour, and brutal punishment for mistakes means we as players need to take every encounter seriously and I love that. Knowing the enemy has just as much or more power than me if they get the chance to use it makes every turn count. But what got me the most in this game was my emotional attachment, and loss. As each of my daughters grew in strength, and fell, I experienced those two faces of loss. The tactical loss of a powerhouse, and the emotional loss of someone I had invested myself in.

I'd grown so attached to my daughters from the offset, and brought one all the way to the fourth boss. Her name was Providence, and she was a shieldbearer given to me at the start of my second recollection. Though I didn't like that I didn't name her myself, I came to value her when she became the sole survivor and beat the first boss on her last legs. After that I healed her and kept her around for the next few fights and recollections, and eventually gained an equally strong daughter, Tiara the blademaster, who I brought back alongside her in recollection four. Then we got to the fourth era, and fights were getting tense. My A team were all injured, and my B team was under-powered. Side note: I even loved my B team as badasses and only refer to them as B because they weren't as high level and I had grown so invested in my two longest lasting daughters. Upon a near total wipe I chose to start again. All went as usual, but my graves had nearly filled, and I didn't realise this until after the decision was made. I went to resurrect my A team and pay respects to B team. Then I saw it. The full cemetery. Providence and Tiara never reached the full graves. There were now permanently gone. Unlike every loss that hit me, but gave the glimmer of a chance at resurrecting my fallen daughters, this hurt unexpectedly. This time there was no chance, no tactical opportunity, no hope. This time they were gone for good. Embarrassing as it may be to say, I nearly cried. The only thing that stopped me was telling myself it IS a game, these aren't my living, breathing daughters. Even so, the emotion hit hard all the same, and I had to take a day away from the game. Now I'm nearing the end, with my new team forged as a merger of A and B teams' remnants, and still I feel that loss. A part of Providence does live on in my soulslinger, Desire, but none living have a part of Tiara.

This is the power this game has if you give yourself to it. You feel each loss, and may feel even more if you're not careful. Every triumph feels earned and you will value your daughters and feel determined to rise above every monster that awaits you and solve every mystery as you struggle to remember. If anyone gets this far, or even reads any of this, I hope you enjoy Othercide. Whether you watch a YouTuber play it, or take up the challenge yourself, I truly hope you enjoy. And if you do play, be aware of how full your cemetery is getting :)
