Congratulations Ronald !

I can tell you for a fact, that people in their 70's can still stay strong.

I am almost 72 years old, and at 155 lbs, I can still bench press over 200 lbs.

Good job mister, but honestly a world record only 148 pounds? I mean I think its great that the guy is almost 80 and probably stronger than 99% of people his age, however I see guys at the gym 79- 80 year olds benching 200 pounds. Kinda hard to believe that 148 is a world record

I too am an older lifter and have trained since my early teens. I will be 71 in a few months. I started lifting for sports, but in my twenties switched to powerlifting. I continue now with a power building program. I train five days a week. According to my program my 1 rep max in the bench is 250 lbs, squat is 335 lbs, and deadlift 350 lbs. I currently weigh 190 lbs.

I am so with you! 70 in a few months and I can do 235. Been lifting since I was 12 as well ... and I am drug free! 5' 8" and about 175 pounds. Glad to see that there are some other oldies out there still pounding the iron - well done, brother!!

I'd like a little more context. What weight class is this? I'm 72 yrs and 70kg and this sounds pretty light(to be a record). Not to belittle this guy's efforts- good for him. I think we should all be pushing some weights or doing something similar.

If this gentleman keeps it up, he'll do what 99%+ of men his age don't do: retain muscle mass and strength. Coupled with good bone density and flexibility -- and of course, good nutrition -- he can full well expect to have healthful longevity.

Never, ever take training advice from a doctor. They don't know. It's not their profession. At least my last doctor was honest. I had appendix surgery and when I asked him when could I start training again he said, "I don't know. " Other doctors usually tell you a blanket statement: 6 to 8 weeks of no training. Trust me, if you stop training for 8 weeks, you'll be worse off. If you are injured you could take two weeks off but you must train what you can. The body likes to be in equilibrium. Training around an injury will heal the injury quicker rather than sitting around for 8 weeks. Most of us start to feel more injuries, aches and pains once we stop training.

very good job. Here in texas male age 73 bench 214 and dead 330. Been lifting sense age 13. Still lift now in my garage and compete in masters 165. We should form a group or 70 plus for lifters that age as most of all the info out is not base on the older lifter 70+ like training and diet and just anything older lifters could use or help each other and expand our knowledge . Lifting over 60 years. Keep up the good work, lift heavy and stay safe.

Hats off to this guy. I'm 73, I still weight lift, and I know how every year it gets tougher and tougher. I hope that in 3 years I'm still going strong like him.

Ronald, what an inspiration and role model you are! I am 47 and started lifting at 17 (after being bullied all through high school) and I would like to keep doing as long as my body allows 🤞🏽

Congratulations to him for the national record especially after that car accident. I happen to be 76 have utilized a strict weightlifting program for years post two back surgeries and bench press over 200 lbs multiple reps. Concentration, form, diet, and maintaining a regular program will deliver excellent results. As Clint says "Never let the old man in".
