Hotspot: A hotspot is a physical location where people can access the Internet, typically using Wi-Fi, via a wireless local area network (WLAN) with a router connected to an Internet service provider.
Wifi is a wireless communication technology that is used for LAN(Local Area Networks). Whereas the hotspot provides internet to wireless devices by using wifi.
What is the purpose of having a hotspot?
A portable hotspot device or a mobile hotspot on your phone lets you share your high-speed data to connect more devices to the internet in more places—all powered by our nationwide network.
What is a mobile hotspot network?
A mobile hotspot is an ad hoc wireless access point that is created by a dedicated hardware device or a smartphone feature that shares the phone's cellular data. Other nearby devices can then use the shared hotspot to connect to the internet. Mobile hotspots are also known as portable hotspots.
Can you use hotspot without Wi-Fi?
A Personal Hotspot lets you share the cellular data connection of your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) when you don't have access to a Wi-Fi network.
Can I use a mobile hotspot as my home internet?
A mobile hotspot can replace home internet service if you're a light data user. Light data users use the internet at home just to check email, shop occasionally, and browse websites, a mobile hotspot can work for you.
Does hotspot use data?
When a device is connected to your phone's Mobile Hotspot feature or app, data usage is applied to your data plan's monthly allowance. After exceeding your plan's monthly high-speed allowance, you can still use Hotspot at lower speeds for the rest of the month.
Does a hotspot cost money?
There are no additional fees for using your phone as a hotspot, and you can do it whether you have By the Gig or Unlimited. Data used as a mobile hotspot will count toward your data charges for the billing cycle. Remember, your laptop may use more data than your phone would for similar activities.
