Coverage starts at 1:31 -- I wanted to include the moment the tornado warning popped up on the map in the corner, but I didn't realize it was that long before the commercials stopped. This was in the middle of our 6 PM newscast, right at the scheduled forecast segment.

Idky but I like looking at commercials from other cities. lol. It's different to me than where I live.

It may benefit people to know that both of these meteorologists are new to the station within the last few months, so some confusion during the first major severe weather can be expected.

I know these guys are no James Spann or Mike Morgan or Gary England, but my god, the 2 storms were Severe Thunderstorm Warned.. STAY ON THE TORNADO WARNING. The TORNADO WARNING is more important than a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING.

Also, he even said there was a large violent tornado causing damage north of Rochelle.. then he leaves the storm? No wonder I don't watch these guys during severe weather coverage (I live in Rock County). I stopped watching these guys the day they lost Eric Sorenson. Eric would have been on that Rochelle storm and would not have left that storm no matter what. The girl in the back could have been giving updates about the Belvidere storm when she hears them, but when a large and extremely dangerous tornado is on the ground in your viewing area, you DO NOT leave that storm.

I was wondering how long it would take them to notice that strong couplet south of Byron. The went right over it and said there isn't any rotation, as if they were blind.

I live in the area and yes both meteorologist are fairly new after chief meteorologist Eric Sorenson left for the quad cities. This station has been moving and firing a lot of ppl last few years including Eric Wilson and Eric sorenson. If Eric sorenson was at the station that day the coverage would've been a lot different for the better as he had the skill and personality, u can watch some of his videos on youtube including his last appearance in rockford by typing in his name

They need to default to having the polygons visible and layered above the reflectivity.  Still, good communication between the two meteorologists.  Also, great job telling people to treat the Rochelle cell as a tornado warning, well before it was warned by the NWS.

I don't understand why you would use TV during a thunderstorm. I live in an area that gets severe thunderstorms and we are told not to use TV but to use radio.

unless youre rendering "volume scan", please turn those sweeping lines off. WSR-88Ds dont work like old fashion radars and those lines serve 0 purpose

Here so first of all the twister was firstly in or between the Cherry Mall and then between it there was another tornado now if your in a mall do to you local nearest basement or interior room with no windows like local and if you don't the tornado might hit you with a bullseye and cherry ally was a small tornado but a severe thunder storm was turned into a wedge tornado from the more moisture from the air and the winds in the funneling grew bigger and it may produce pea to softball or pea to golf ball or whatever and 70 or 125 mph winds inside the supercell the it can produce heavy rain :3

I don't know what they did to their computers but that trueview technology has been fucked up beyond belief. That's not the way that software is supposed to work. Gaps in the data, malfunctioning graphics. A mess. I would be pissed if I were the chief meteorologist.

Nothing and I mean nothing about Fairdale, IL! These two fools were so unorganized and having a power struggle. I can't believe the number of times they brought up that Tornado Safety Rules...ok, I am ok with three - six times. The guy kept yapping yapping and yapping. Nothing important was coming out. Nasal voice. ANYWAY, I am so upset after watching this for the 3rd time. I pulled up the NWS - Chicago - Tornado Path (09 May 2015) - with the times - and comparing with this coverage. Not good. I am surprised they still have jobs.
