In March 2022 I was asked if I would be interested acting as a potential substitute bassist for MONUMENTS in case of a Covid emergency. It so happened to be, that out of all shows, this would be the case at Hellfest on June 19th 2022. I also had the privilege to fill in on their latest EU and USA/Canada tours.
Originally these videos were intended as a way to show the band where I was at with the songs, so they could correct mistakes before a first show with me, without any rehearsals. Even though some of these parts aren't 100% correct, I still felt some of you might enjoy watching these videos nonetheless. I've been shooting these 15 videos over the course of 3 months, so they've been sitting around for a while now. I'll be uploading another playthrough every two weeks. Hope you guys will enjoy them!
Out of all the songs I've worked on for this live set, Empty Vessels was the hardest song to completely internalize. Some of the rhythmic changes just didn't want to stick in my brain, even after having transcribed everything. It's weird looking back on that process now since I couldn't imagine this song any other way at this point. Moral of the story? Music is weird. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!
