Johnny Marr is usually the one to receive deserved accolades', but on many of the Smiths songs, it is Andy's bass that sticks out. What an incredibly creative bassist! Travel well Andy!!!

Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce were amazing together. Saw them live in NYC in '85 and '86. God Bless you Andy.

Your music changed my life and your playing style made me look at music from a much more melodic perspective. Rest in peace genius. Thank you forever. Love from Argentina.

This one hits hard. Not just that he was central part of the greatest indie band of the 80s, but that he seemed like - and everyone that knew him agrees - such a kind and gentle feller. RIP buddy.

I can hear the bassline to "Rusholme Ruffians" as I vid this clip. He lives on in dimensions of sound and memory, his existence preserved in the collective remembrance of all whom have ever listened to the the music he played and recorded.

This is so heartbreaking. He seemed like such a quiet guy.

North West Lad. North West Man who loved his city of Manchester. Well liked quiet but so loved and respected. The Smiths had one of the all time best rhythm sections in a music band with him and Mike Joyce together. Their power timing tightness professionalism talent (listen the never to be equalled Barbarism begins at Home bassline) and understanding allowed Johnny Marr to go off and do his own magical thing. Marr has come out and said that and this is telling. It shows Andy Rourke's contribution to without doubt the strongest and greatest band of the 80s era. They were so strong only themselves could break them up. His work will be held up as examples to future musicians which none of them will reach until one comes along with his gifts and we get another super group. How soon is now on that one? Morrissey also makes the point that as long as his music is played he will never die. Also got a bit emotional reading Morrissey first words of his comment of ''I'm not prepard to do this with Andy'' proves maybe as Morrissey also points out ''He didn't even know his own power'' RIP Mr Andrew Rourke, from a North West Bloke like yourself who you made damn proud to be from our Region. I just have to die and get into Heaven now cause that's the only way I'll see The Smiths reform completely. I'm not sad I'm just happy that You was amongst us in the first place with your musical gift. Thank You.

My 32 year old neighbor got pancreatic cancer when I lived in New York city in the 1990s and I was honest with him, I told him to party it up as long as he can, engage in love as much as possible because there was no hope for him to live longer than a year, that everybody dies but his death date was sped up, but sadly he didn't listen to me.
He fell into the hospital/hope torture circle and they did all the ancient medical procedures to suck as much money out of him as possible, radiation, poison, then they reamed his insurance by locking him in a bed completely devoid of freedom while pumping him full of drugs and then he died. Absolutely disgusting.

I was really caught off guard when I heard the news. I was so shocked and saddened to know that a member of The Smiths died. It’s quite painful to bear.

Cancer is always a “flatulent pain in the arse”…

And Heaven Knows us Smiths fans are miserable now.

This is devastating. A whole world died with Andy. I am so goddamn grateful to each one of those men for what theyve contributed to my life, i cannot even adequately put it into words. My love, and my absolute sadness is shared by all of us, the family of fans that we have found, thanks to these boys, united by the love of their art....i have never felt closer to every Smiths fan as I do right now, and my heart, as always, but even stronger now, goes out to Morrissey, Johnny and Mike. Andy was 1/4 of every Smiths song written, and right now, it feels as if theres a big hole in the world and its never going to be filled again.
Im crushed. I quit drinking in 2016 cold turkey. But I need a drink.
