Pazuzu, The Demon Behind The Exorcist

If you've heard of Pazuzu at all, it's because you paid attention while watching The Exorcist. Pazuzu was the demon that possessed young Regan in the film. However, this fascinating character has a long history that goes back several centuries, far before he ever appeared in a movie. Regardless of whether or not you think that demons are actually real, belief in Pazuzu has definitely influenced the actions of countless people.

I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist and when that face would briefly flash up on the screen I'd nearly shit myself 🤣 then to make things worse someone or something knocked on the window of my mams upstairs flat. Thing is, there's no way of getting to that window without a ladder and there was nobody there. There was only me and my friend in and we were only teenagers. Once we realised there was no rational explanation we legged it outta there and went to hers til my mam got home a couple of days later. We didn't imagine it either, it was a proper full on, loud knocking like you'd expect a cop to do when he'd tried the door several times, so decides to bray on the window. That was 20 years ago and we still can't think of anything other than the supernatural

Very fascinating video

I had just seen The Exorcist for the very first time. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had utilized folklore from Mesopotamia/ancient Iraq and Arabic dialogue (as an Arab from Kuwait)

I feel that this Pazuzu might be an ally to some and an enemy to others depending on his whims

This movie terrified me. Movies about demons, possession, etc....I hate gore films....like saw. I thought Regan did say "Pazuzu"during her exorcism when the priest was screaming "name yourself"

He is a member of the Udugs: dark shadows different from the elemental gods, born in the underworld and capable to posses people.
Lamshtu is not a shadow demon (udug), but she is a evil dingir(gods of earth, wather, fire, wind, death ecc...).
The father of Pazuzu...Hanbi or Hanpu...is praticaly a Dark Lord born in Hell, different from the underworld gods Ereskigal and Nergal.
