I once went on a date and a guy keep on turning on Coil. We were drinking red wine and eating bread, an old Christian tradition. Forever grateful to him

I am no expert on history of electronic music, but from the many pieces of music I have heard, IMHO there was no one musically, sonically better than Coil.

There is something out of this world in this. Gets me in a transe like state. Very rare and special. Hope i find those qualities again in my lifetime.

I found this album while randomly going through my dad's collection of music
First few sounds in, I knew I'd found something awesome

Coil is now one of my favorite bands.

The best psychedelic album in human history

This is Coil's masterpiece IMO. They were great in the 80s, but peaked in the 90s.

CoiL - All members and Collaborators are well respected in this corner of things. Genius and fine craft. Experiments and powerful music.

First time I heard this album was on mushrooms. It felt like the songs were my ribcage and that voices were being spoken backwards inside the song.

11/10 would recommend.

Dark River was the first COIL song I ever heard. I had no idea who it was because it was on an anonymous mix-tape a friend made me. I was so happy when I finally picked up this CD and found it again, years later.

Released in ‘91 and it still stands the test of time.

Coil’s albums have had spotty availability on streaming services for a long time, and all their first three main studio LP’s are currently not on Spotify. All are incredible albums, and this one is the most fun, the one in which their trademark darkness is most alloyed with lightness and even humor. Underground noise meets trendy dance rhythms, futuristic sound design mixes with themes of ancient alchemy, and chaotic drug trip simulations are held inside songs that mostly feel tight and coherent. In other words Coil, like very few groups, truly made music that recognized no boundaries. As the music from their time (late 80’s to early 2000’s) gets seen more and more from a historical perspective I think the work of John Balance and Peter Christopherson will increasingly stand out from that of their peers: this is music at once of that moment (its material being mainly the era’s synths, samplers, and drum machines) and yet transcendent in its effect.

I got this cd in 92, Someone had ordered and didnt like it. I listened to the first song and life changed forever. I Made a Lot of copies on cassette and would listen to this on the school bus... It took me to other worlds.

It's amazing hearing how much they reworked Teenage Lighting for Ape of Naples. I'm listening to their discography in sort of random order and seeing the maturity of their song writing develop is really interesting especially with several iterations of certain songs.

My friends were always into Coil since Scatology and Horse Rotorvator, when suddenly this arrived and Coil was the bridge between experimental and dance. Not anyone was disappointed and at that time people around us started doing LSD. I was one of them and the album became this adventure for everyone involved. Mysterious, Strange, but still Coil... Even made a strange artwork about a vision I had on the final track. Chaostrophy made my neighbour once crazy. What's going on in your place?

The thing that amazes most is despite being the program director at a college radio station in the 90's I've only found this gem in the last week!

I used to dance to this at Roderick’s Chamber back in the day in San Francisco. The title track is my personal Favorite.

I owe this album since the early '90 and it's still #1 on my favourite albums of all time.
Headphones and a dark place are very recommended! Substances on your own risk. This musick is addictive.
Even today when listen to it I still hear new sound out of it.
My favourite track : Further back and faster.
Pure sex musick.
