I'll be using the Graco Ultra Max cordless sprayer to repaint three metal doors in a commercial restaurant. I'll show you how to set up the sprayer and tell you how it performed on a real world professional job.

I’ve had my ultra handheld corded now for about a year, I use it for strictly crown mouldings, Covings and woodwork, one year one it’s still on the same pump, I must have put over 250 Litres of paint through with no problems, I dilute my paints by 5-10% then run at a fairly low pressure, what’s vital is and where a lot of people go wrong is cleaning, I think the main reason these don’t last for people is because they simply don’t do the required maintenance, once I clean it out I put about 50ml of pump armour through then once a week I get it back out and reapply pump armour, this isn’t an everyday sprayer but used under the correct conditions it can last you a while and it’s payed for itself now around 10 times

You just shattered my heart when you said it’s a small project sprayer. I hoped it would work for big projects.

Hey Chris!

I picked up the Ultra from SW last year to paint some doors and trim. It worked great. I squeezed out 12 doors and some trim with little effort. First time spraying and they came out great! It was about $350 so I couldn’t pass it up. If it breaks now no biggy- cheaper than hiring someone.

If you are using a water based product you can simply take the cup off and turn it upside down under a faucet (preferably a shop sink) leave the water running and prime for a second then continue to spray until it comes out clear. Cleanse in half the time. Also when you prime just know water will come out of the little hole that recirculates so be sure and cup your hand over so you dont shoot water up in the air.

Been painting for about 19yrs...
For me brush and roller you can't go wrong. There's a reason why old school ways are top notch

own two, love the sprayer. Zero issues! we run the hell out of these. I see all the problem people are having in the comments, all I can say is: keep it clean and strain your paint.

Thank you SO MUCH for your honest comments at 7:11. I was thinking about getting this for some priming I need to do with all my trim. I already have larger Graco sprayers, and was hopeful that this would give me the reason not to pull those out. I don't do any small projects so this would not be the best thing for me right now. Thanks again, you've saved me about $600.

I love the fact you always throw in a bible verse!!! Love your work I’ve been a painter for a while but I want to learn more about spraying so I’ve been learning from you! So thank you

as a previous painter it looks like it could be handy at times but must say flat doors like those are much easier to roll out than masking off everything or having to cover up the over spray with a few coats of paint. i believe this would work great for panel doors or crown molding.. good review though, appreciate it..

Hi Chris, I have the older corded version and have used it for many projects. I find that the excessive overspray is too much of a hassle. I see in part of your video that overspray was engulfing the space. It seems doing the job with regular 395 will perform much better. Your small job comments are right on. Thanks for doing these great videos.

I had the battery version that didn’t shoot hot solvents (TrueCoat VS) These guns are ok for smallish jobs - maintenance guy wanting to paint a few doors, cover up graffiti, etc. I used the sprayer to paint WRC picket fence boards. It took two coats using Cabot solid stain and I back brushed the product. I went through 5 gallons and the unit held up well. It does have a narrow use application. You must have diluted the product. Graco support will tell you to strain the product to avoid clogs, which makes the spray sputter. The cups come in larger sizes, but you have to buy them. I purchased a second cup to rinse the system out adding a few drops of dawn liquid soap. Warm water helps clean out the unit quicker, but to get the unit spotless clean takes time 15-25 minutes. The Graco hand held unit should be able to paint a bedroom out, but not on ha frequent basis. I would say no more than a few times a year. It’s not the right gun to shoot an interior of a 3 bedroom house. Did you get your bible verses mixed up with tip sizes?

I use it for small job as bathroom ceiling etc, have also 395 for painting and Mark 7 for gypsum. All the stuff has their place. I think my UltraMax is a great machine for the work I expect from it. Never had any problem with it.

i replaced the seal still do the same and by the fifth time of usage start to leak on the knob i leave it at the store and the representative of Graco said unable to check it cos i dint leave the battery so you need to find a repair shop to fixed. the question is why you expend over 600 .00 to go thorough the problem i fill like put my money on the trash.

Yeah I never thought about the flammable issue but also I don't use too many of those kinds of paint nor sprayers like this. Had one for a little bit but took it back because of priming and cleaning issues. A lot of parts to keep up with and a little more than I like to clean...bigger rigs are easier. I would definitely go with his advice and not use it much.

Great video! I think the scripture verse is Isaiah 40:30 & 31 Keep the Faith!

Bought it for one job. Did not expect it to last. Was not disappointed.

So cleaning takes about the same time as any hvlp with the 3m pps cup. These things are very convenient and faster then using hvlp for jobs like these. Where you only have a couple doors

I love following you. Anyone can understand and follow your instructions. I have practically learned everything I need to know about the graco jand held spray gun that I just got delivered two days ago without reading the manual. I bought exactly the same gun you demoed only corded.
