actually crafting is indeed needed you can use it to gain more bullets/arrows, the strongest swords, the finest guns, ship upgrades, gain dual guns

It's bad enough you have to scavenge for recipes and find the right artisan for the right item by frustrating trial and error, but losing resources if you make the wrong selections is really idiotic. Especially when the game fails to give halfway decent instructions on crafting to begin with. I lost interest in crafting altogether. This game's crafting is horrible, and I'm not even sure it's all that necessary. I'm 1/3 of the way into the game and haven't needed to craft anything.

I agree. I think the whole Homestead thing is stupid. I wanted to play an Assassins Creed game, not Farmville on steroids.

It's not necessary at all, not the way they implemented it anyway. I ended up easily beating the game without it, and I've heard many others say the same. Since there's no difficulty levels, how does that make is necessary? At best it just adds things to look at and play with.

AC has been going downhill since AC2. They keep adding ridiculous game elements instead of just fine tuning what worked well.
