Wow, that power zoom...what were you thinking Canon!?! lol. Interesting lens just for the weird power zoom, but awful overall. The 18-55mm kit lens today is far better quality than this. As you said, it may be good to have if your collecting weird lenses, but not for using.

I was wondering if there was ever a powered zoom lens for an ILC system, this both answers my question, and demonstrates that doing so is a terrible idea.

Add to this terrible build quality and robustness. We got my father-in-law's prior Rebel when he upgraded and my daughter is getting into photography. This lens sucked and the auto-zoom was already broken. And my father-in-law takes VERY good care of his gear.

I can't help it... but now I want to have it just for being able to hate with so much warmth as you absoloutely convincingly do. Well anyway, Canon obviously learned from it and never produced that kind of trash again. Trail and Error... and, why not?

I have this lens but wanted to know what to use it for. But I think to sell it or keep it as decoration. Tips on what to do with it are welcome. I got it ror free from someone. I had no idea it was this bad I never used it.
