Just finished restoring an identical 98. I had the same 99 when I was in my mid 20s. Rode it across Canada at one point. Great solid reliable bike. Simple to work on and it’s very versatile. Real mutt of a bike. Engine by Austria with some design changes by BMW. Assembled in Italy by Aprilia with lots of Italian made parts on it. And designed by BMW. Only weak points are a water pump that needs shaft and seal replacement every 50k or so depending on the bike and your coolant maintenance. And the voltage rectifiers liked to fail. The fix for that is a cheap eBay used rectifier from the newer BMW F650GS. Did that to mine and it charges perfectly.

I just bought this bike with only 5000 km (3106 Miles). The previous owner bought it in 1997 and never rode it. Has always been inside so no rust. nothing. Bike looks brand new. Very happy with the 650

Are the grips original? They're identical to the one I have on my vf500

Had two of these decent little bikes and they have gone up in value to

This model has two spark plugs and two coils. Why did you not install the second (inner) spark plug cap? In the video one can see the inner spark plug sitting there, bare. Only the outer one has a cap.This will surely have an impact on performance, economy and emmisions.

Very sharp looking bike. Gorgeous des paint job. For being 24 years old, it's mileage that you mentioned, is next to none. Literally; looks like a brand new bike, fresh out of the crate. The fact that it has 30 more horsepower than a KLR 650, and also an XR 650, tells you that bike has quite a bit of power. 30 more hp, makes a big. Difference. I saw Junior pass by, riding a wheelie on his Sure Ron Bike. 😂😂
