We ran into a dropout issue with our hearing assist system, which transmits wirelessly to the individual hearing assist receivers. After years of them working without issue, we suddenly were receiving static and dropouts.

After substantial diagnosis and benefiting from my experience installing aftermarket led headlights in my vehicle, I found the seemingly unlikely culprit.

The bulbs in the building's light fixtures had been changed to led bulbs. The cheaper the LED light bulb, the cheaper the driver. Unfortunately cheap LED drivers create a lot of RF interference. Our transmitting antenna was directly next to a light fixture so the transmission signal was being compromised at its source. The transmitting antenna was in the balcony, which was close to many LED fixtures. I had the point the antenna directly down from the balcony so that it would maintain enough distance from any LED bulbs and the associated interference.

The moral of the story is that LED bulbs can result in issues, especially when the drivers are cheap. Perform some due diligence prior to changing to led bulbs and keep your wireless gear at a distance.
