Nov 16, 2023 - Apple finally announced that in 2024, they will support RCS, yay! Some caveats: Green bubbles are not going away, and Apple wants the universal profile to support end-to-end encryption, something Google has failed to implement. It's not perfect, but progress.

No, RCS serves as the replacement to SMS. Of course google wants more people to shift to android. In my experience the only reason people stay on iPhone or switch to iPhone has been for iMessage exclusively. What you’re claiming is that Apple has no incentive to support RCS as it would compete with iMessage, giving 1 less reason to own an iPhone over android. You’re ignoring the fact that Apple needs to support RCS if it wants to maintain its claims of being “the most secure platform” as SMS does not support end to end encryption. They can keep iMessage exclusive to iPhones and still have separate features on iMessage. But if they don’t support RCS, they’re actually hurting their users in an attempt to keep people locked into the Apple ecosystem.
