How To Live Forever (Trailer)

In HOW TO LIVE FOREVER, Director Mark Wexler embarks on a worldwide trek to investigate just what it means to grow old and what it could mean to really live forever. But whose advice should he take? Does 94-year-old exercise guru Jack LaLanne have all the answers, or does Buster, a 101-year-old chain-smoking, beer-drinking marathoner? What about futurist Ray Kurzweil, a laughter yoga expert, or an elder porn star?

Wexler explores the viewpoints of delightfully unusual characters alongside those of health, fitness and life-extension experts in this engaging new documentary, which challenges our notions of youth and aging with comic poignancy. Begun as a study in life-extension, How To Live Forever evolves into a thought-provoking examination of what truly gives life meaning.

At the end of this it seems to me like Mark has given up. I think we will have radical life extension but I think bio immortality may be over 50 years away.

It's so nice that I'm not the only one who want to live longer so bad...

@JColinOlson excellent question- and that is absolutely discussed in the film. as they say- just because we CAN, does it mean that we SHOULD?

@berkshireee I see what you are getting at, and as an American I know that I am supposed to feel a sentimental pull towards that ideal of pursuing whatever I want at whatever cost, and the right of others to do so, but that really doesn't line up with reality. Isn't that what laws are - prohibitions against what people want to do because we, as a society, recognize that what people (and specifically individuals) want isn't always in their own best interest, much less everyone's interest.

I was listening to a review for this movie and they said the guy in the movie was asking people if you had the the choice to take a pill that let you live for 500 years would you take it. I said to myself I'd do it in a heart beat. Maybe then I would see the most amazing thing no one in this lifetime could imagine. Maybe I would travel the cosmos and maybe just maybe someone would fall in love with me and maybe I would fall in love with them. -_-

@coollat17 check out buster, though. he died at 104 last week. he got off work, stopped by the pub for a pint, smoked a few cigarettes (as usual), went home, and died quietly in his sleep.

@MrKingatheist I understand the point you're trying to make but here's where we differ. research into aging aims to increase the the length of life and any benefit to the quality of life that may or may not emerge is secondary. Quality of life, for the most part, is a subjective matter. I think you and I both agree its more important to live a fulfilling life rather than a longer life and if anyone can manage to do both then they win. The trailer seems to only promote the latter.

@MrKingatheist I can see what you are saying, however, I feel differently. I can't see how someone can be 'condemned to die by age related disease', since death is, of course, an inescapable eventuality. Perhaps, I just think about death differently. Which begs the question: isn't this all just about forestalling death? And I won't dodge your question, personally, if I got Alzheimer's, well that's it - game over. I would probably start making plans to go off and die somewhere, on my terms.

Just because lifespan has increased it doesn't mean that ageing will disappear. Maybe it will take up new forms and timmings!

1:00 Suzanne Sommers probably would've made it to 100-120, but instead she only made it to 77, which is pretty good!

On the other hand, just because you don't want it, does that mean other people should not have the right to pursue what they want?

Imagined Buster not smoking and drinking.

Jack LaLanne would have been the best contender for healthy longevity, probably breaking 120 easily, if he hadn't passed away from pneumonia. + RIP + Jack LaLanne
