You know what can make your PlayStation 5 downloads faster? Plugging it directly into the router via ethernet cable.

2.4Ghz is the standard for most user bases not everyone has a 5Ghz router. Similar to most house holds still have 1080p tvs and not 4K tvs.

It makes more sense to be safe with your user base than pushing 5Ghz options as default as some routers do not have the 5Ghz band option enabled by default. You have to manually set up and allow 5Ghz connection.


To avoid users from stating my "wifi don't work" set the default standard to 2.4Ghz in which those who do have 5Ghz can manually set up just like router's.

5 GHZ has terrible distance connection. Also seems to drop off more. Just use ethernet.

They've kinda forgotten to mention most routers (especially free ISP routers) don't have 5Ghz.
Also 5Ghz has poorer distance so you gotta be closer to it.

Not Gonna lie Lew i was sittin’ right next my PS5 and did that setting immediately in first 2 mins of video and i got those results i was gettin like 10-15 mb per second but now it’s like 40-50 😂😂😂 Thanks Guys…

On my PS5, the default was automatic. I set it to 5. It's in the same room as my router.

I only had one thing on my network that needed 2.4 and that was my printer. I threw out my printer and disabled 2.4 entirely. I am much happier now without the printer and this is not a hack.

Wired is always the best way to go. I thought everyone knew 5ghz is best for speed at close range and 2.4ghz is better for a more reliable connection at longer ranges from the router....

i mean it does work, but there is something wrong with playstation consoles, this has been an issue since ever, i'm paying for up/down 400mb/s, i get 600mb/s on my iphone, my ipad and my macbook, but for some reason, doesn't matter what i do, i barely get 200mb on my ps5, it was even worse on my ps4 and ps3

i get faster DL but worse stability for online games since my router isn't nearby my PS5. For online games 2.4 is still better unless your router is right next to/connected to your PS5.

I can download Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5 within 3-4 hours. Can someone tell me if that’s good? I’m not good with this whole internet speed test stuff. I just listen in a blank stare from ISPs and say “ya ya ya just give me my internet” 🤣
