'I took a bullet for democracy', says Donald Trump

Donald Trump and his new vice-presidential pick, JD Vance, held the first joint campaign rally in Michigan. It came as President Biden was self-isolating with Covid.

Trump mocked Democrats and at one point called former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "crazy as a bedbug."

If the crowd had any fear, they didn’t show it. Trump supporters came here in their tens of thousands and started queueing before dawn.
