Cain here. *New* (?) pattern. Hehe. U r right tho. Was out fluking today here in CT... Advantages of fishing high: 1) they commit before they get a good look at the bait, 2) it hauls them up instead of off the structure or towards the boat, 3) they like looking up, 4) fish swimming around looking/darting up at surface are more active... they came from fifteen feet today, 5) biggest: bass like to pin food against something (a weed wall, the bottom, or the surface) and are way more likely to commit to something they can corral/pin. They dont like spending energy on a maybe. Underwater camera footage shows how a bass will seem to show zero interest in a bait fish until it makes a wrong move and its trajectory intersects a barrier of some sort. Then suddenly the bass makes its move... They must have geometry and tracking lines hard wired. This is also why I like dragging a jig uphill instead of downhill. Seems like bass like that the bait is headed toward a dead end. Think of bass like muggers who hide in shadows, looking for an easy victim... I've said too much. ;)

Jonny I can’t remember ever seeing repetitive action like this! Wow! What a lesson! And as usual, your electronics visuals are so clear and comprehensive. Amazed! Thanks so much!

Never got notification about this one but it's a great one. I really like the mix of using your electronics, explanation of how the fish set up quick catches and of course a little salesmanship show me how good that bait and hooked work

I like watching your off shore fishing videos. I learn so much from you.
Thanks.

This is what I’ve been doing on the East coast. It’s awesome. They won’t hit bait presented down to them. They are killing the real thing (shad) near the surface. Anything that sinks down they ignore. Watching them jet up to hit the bait is awesome.

Hey Jonny! I have been watching your channel for years. I love your content. I also love your boat. I have the exact same boat I believe. Triton TR186DC. I have upgraded it over the years and it has served me well. I love fishing the Spark Shad. It has served me well over the years. Thanks for the great lessons.

Your videos are insanely good (show and tell)! I don't even bass fish, but rather crappie and striped bass, but I watch your videos!

Jonny - Another excellent video! Your annotations on the screen videos are a valuable addition. Question: can you reframe the screen video slightly so the range scale on Livescope isn't cut off at the top? Just a few pixels more would do it.

Funny you mentioned they want bite a Keitech swim bait. I was just telling guys at work the other day I couldn’t get them to bite anything but a mega bass spark shad. I kept trying everything else but 17 out of my 20 came from a spark shad and a tush.

14:17 you are dead right. With even just 2D and a marker buoy this can be done. It does require a bit more time and effort, but is 107% do able.

I am in the camp who despises Livescope...I mean let's be blunt, it really does turn fishing into a video game and is very much "cheating" in a sense...but still, this was an interesting video as far as the fish behavior part.

Must have been Chris Zaldain driving that striper guide boat!😮

I’d gotten in the habit of swimming the lure in over their heads about 2 ft. no matter the depth.

Odd. We just experienced this on my last trip. My buddy and captain, a guide, was drop shotting and spooning. I went off the banks and shallow. Big glides, Swims, and top water. I got action all day, against the known pattern. Brent barely saw anything. Hmmm. Thanks.
