You know it’s rough when even Humble Mechanic throws shade at VW for special/proprietary stuff.

Very commonly used in aviation. Sometimes they fall off the parts rack and land in my pocket. Along with those pretty purple hi-loks...

The reason they use the he's shape is to keep the body of the Riv-nut from rotating since the tool used to install them from new is a rotating type gun that screws the bottom up to crimp it against the sheet metal
Freightliner semi trucks use hex type in their aluminum truck cabs however they are standard thread

Riv nuts rock, helped me mount a skid plate to my lowered MKIV 1.8T. Right onto the subframe holes already there :D

Ford transit's and ford transit connects have the same hex holes for mounting the divider between the seats and rear of the van

I used the round one in my passat, was obviously supposed to use the hex one but I didn't care, worked perfectly so you really can use whatever works

For those that dont know you can install riv nuts without that special tool proper size bolt and a oversized nut. You can look up how it works

I probably would have just tapped the OEM threads with new ones and swapped screws but that’s just me.

Riv nuts is a pretty neat idea.

My Fiat 500 and my wife's 500x use these hex rivnuts too. Other Mopar vehicles as well.👍

That would work good for many bumper covers as well. If nothing else keeps it from coming off. Also the inside fender well liners. It is impossible to get the plastic snap fasteners to work These could be used with 2 washers and keep the plastic from ripping the holes out as easy.

I've been considering using riv-nuts for a lot of fastening applications, so glad to hear Amazon has some options.

NC plates? :)

Could that possibly work on my b7 avant wagon? The shock nut broke and I only have 1 shock working on the hatch

At the ‘Yota dealership we do this to install OEM running boards on a Toyota Highlander. I think there’s 12 in total. Not particularly difficult but it’s tedious just for running boards.
