The Fairy City || Cephas Preston

Показать описание
Who am I?
Death, of course.
=============
Name: Cephas Preston
Age: 40 (Appears to be in his late 20s)
Gender: Male
Species: Warlock
Alliance: The Preston family, himself, Aiko (Mulan)
Animated Representation: Dimitri (Anastasia)
Live Action Representation: Cory Michael Smith (Gotham)
Personality: Cephas is known mostly as the more insane of the Preston siblings of his generation--possibly even the more insane of the household entirely--and is the most likely to kill someone when in a highly emotional state. He is immensely jealous of his older siblings, but he never acts on it because he knows that in a magic fight he would be outmatched. His magic is fine, and he practices often so as to not become rusty, he just prefers not to use it, instead opting to use the technologies developed by mortals. He finds a sense of comfort in using those sorts of things, and believes that magic users rely on their powers far too much. He'd rather be good at everything and a master of nothing.
Beyond his jealousy, instability, and fragile ego, however, lies a caring heart. While his niece and nephews are utter brats, he loves them immensely and would kill for them. In fact, he has. There's been a few secrets--and bodies--buried by his hands in defense of his family members. That isn't to say that he LIKES killing. In fact, he despises it. Every life he's taken has taken a toll on him, psychologically, and he often falls into states of psychosis from the guilt he feels because of the blood on his hands. During these states, a separate part of his psyche takes form and talks to him, often times mocking him for being too weak to stomach his own violent actions. This part of his psyche has taken to calling himself Edward Nygma, which is a play on the word "Enigma", because of Cephas's love for riddles.
Background: Younger brother to Edith and Ambrose Preston, Cephas has spent much of his life festering in envy of his two older siblings. Especially Edith, the Matriarch of the family who seems to only grow more influential by the hour. Despite being jealous and fantasizing about overthrowing both Edith and Ambrose alike—for Ambrose would be the next in line as head of the family were something to happen to Edith—Cephas has never tried anything to usurp them, and likely wouldn’t do so. Often times, Edith and Ambrose use his jealousy against him and manipulate him into weeding out traitors among their employees. He'll converse with various people who flock in and out of the mansion, make the occassional comment about how he feels he would be better suited as the head of the family, and then--should anyone take the bait and offer to help him overthrow them--he takes the traitors to Edith to await their punishment.
Knowing at least in part what it took for Edith to rise to prominence and keep her influence for all these years, Cephas has tried to consistently remember that their family comes from more humble beginnings. He takes some of his money and uses it to help orphans around the city by hiring people to give the kids care packages or just envelopes with some money and coupons for meals. He doesn't do it often because he doesn't want them to expect consistent free help, but he does it often enough that they get by.
But there is one particular orphan that Cephas has been watching. He met her once, around eight years ago, when she was out on the streets having run away from an orphanage. While on a walk one night, he stumbled upon her taking shelter from the rain and cold. Feeling sympathy for her, and knowing this part of the neighborhood was particularly bad, he pulled all of the money from his wallet and handed it to her and then left without a word, leaving a note tucked between the bills instructing her to buy herself some food, a new set of clothes, and a hotel room for a night or two. To his surprise, when he hired someone to keep tabs on her for the next few days, she did just that. Cephas has been keeping tabs on her ever since. Over the next eight years he's been going about business as usual in regards to helping the orphans of the city, but he helps her out the most. You could say he's become a bit obsessed with her, like the crazy person he is.
One last thing. Cephas doesn't know it, but he's linked to the mysterious murders--the ones where the bodies haven't been buried/disposed of--that have been happening around the city. That's all I'll say for now.
Death, of course.
