How to Repair Windows XP Without CD

If your office is running older Windows XP workstations, you might no longer have the original installation media. Murphy’s law dictates that one of those computers will develop serious operating system issues, leaving you wondering how to fix the problem without a Windows XP disc. Your best bet is to use Window’s built-in System Restore feature, but if the issue is more serious, you can also use your computer’s recovery partition (if it has one) to restore the system to its original factory image.

Issues addressed in this tutorial:

Viruses and other malware corrupt drivers and system files, and changes to system configuration can all interfere with Windows XP SP3's ability to boot. The Windows XP SP3 CD comes with the Recovery Console, a command prompt users can access to restore the system.

Major computer manufacturers no longer include the Windows CD with the system, but some copy the setup files to the hard drive. Users can run System File Checker (SFC) on a system if the setup files are located somewhere on the disk. If the manufacturer did not include any setup files, the computer may still be able to run System Restore in Safe Mode.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows XP operating systems (Home and Professional) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Alienware, Razer, MSI, Huawei , Microsoft Surface, and Samsung.

Mine will not go to safe mode or any place that I can type the letters you stated. I give up. I really need to get into my computer and get some things off of it. But thanks anyway.
