You can also sell before a stock bottoms; wait till it bottoms out entirely, then slowly buy back in as it begins to level off or gain in price again. This is how a lot of IBM retirees trade their company shares. When they start to anticipate a good quarterly return, you’ll see the stock sell off going into quarter reports, after the reports the stock tends to dip more and then slowly creeps back up till the next quarter. As long as that particular stock still manages to turn a profit and issue their typical 5% dividends, you’ll likely see this sort of pattern on that specific stock.
