In this video we learn how to apply what we've learned about proportion problems to a systems of linear equations problem. We'll use what we've been told in the word problem to write out two equations, we'll cross multiply to solve the proportion for one of the variables, and then we'll make a substitution into the other equation in order to isolate and solve for one variable.

Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

It's better to do this problem in this way:

3+4=7

3/7 x 84= 36.
Cause 7 times 12 equals to 84 so now multiply 3 x 12 = 36!
Then 4/7 x 84= 48!
Cause 7 times 12 is 84. So, multiply 4 x 12= 48!

Now add these 36 + 48=?
It's = 84!
Simple isn't it huh! If you have a problem from that video, then check out this solution! Maybe this might help you to understand!
