InfoSession: Space for Early Warning in Africa (SEWA)

ECMWF is contributing to the Africa–EU Space Partnership Programme by taking a leading role in Space for Early Warning in Africa (SEWA) alongside EUMETSAT and the African Union Commission (AUC), and funded by the European Commission's DG for International Partnerships (DG INTPA).
SEWA started in January 2025, and is to develop space-based services and applications to strengthen early warning systems for hazardous weather and climate-related events in sub-Saharan Africa. With this Action, ECMWF contributes to UN EW4All.
This event is the first Info Session of SEWA, and was aimed at all interested parties and in particular the European National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) as well as African meteorological communities.
The webinar includes:
- Welcome by the Director General of ECMWF
- Introduction to the Africa-EU Space Partnership Programme by European Commission's DG INTPA
- Presentation of the role of the AUC
- Presentation of the role of EUMETSAT
- Overview of SEWA and ECMWF's specific role
- Presentation of ECMWF's funding opportunities, including information on procurements and grants
