Thank you for your kind words. I was DP and collaborator with Franklin on the project and this was definitely a project of passion. All the best.

the "hopefullness" of AI is one of the reasons I loved the movie Her so much. It was very clearly a cautionary tale but wasn't afraid to show how it can help people as well.

This is why I've always held Chris in such high regard. He's able to appreciate movies more, because he understands and empathises with how challenging it is to have a vision for a film, and then get it made. So many film critics aren't able to do that, and will tear a persons film to shreds, often overlooking how much struggle it took to make.

My husband and I just watched this together (no torrents involved - Amazon Prime). We both are in the tech field. This was a great, thought-provoking film. I hope Franklin Ritch makes so many films that are as deep and beautiful as this was. I’ll stop there to avoid oversharing. There are so many applicable contexts related to technology, creation, consent, agency, trauma…. Just…wow that was fucking brilliant. Great recommendation! Thanks! ❤

Love seeing Chris going after films that not every big reviewer would review or even watch simply because their titles don't guarantee clicks

I rented this tonight at Chris’s recommendation. I’m glad I listened. It’s a terrific film that’s extremely well written and well made on what was surely a small budget. But it didn’t need a big budget to be effective and is a great example of how good sci fi gets you thinking about the ideas it presents. Highly recommended.

Omg!!!! I know him!!! We are both from Jax and my best friend and her daughter were in this movie! It’s crazy to hear you talking about it! I’ve watched you for years and it really makes this movie real more than anything else could! Thank you for reviewing this movie!!!!

'Primer' is *DEFINITELY* a hidden gem 🥰

Watched the film today. Thanks for the positive review Chris as I wasn't really sure about it. I would describe this as a "real" sci-fi. The discussion of ideas, morals and what does it really mean to be human. It is so well written and the moral framework presented really does leave the viewer with questions of what is the self? what is it being alive?
Chris your review was an absolute point. I'm at the stage now of just ignoring the meta-scores and pretty much using a trusted selection of reviewers.

Please review more smaller / indie films :)

Big props for mentioning Primer, can't go past that if you're looking for dialogue-driven science fiction (not fantasy, which most sci-fi is these days, eh).
Must watch this one now, cheers Chris.

Other noteworthy, similar recent movies that come to find: Arrival (epic!), Aniara (depressing), Nine Days (thought provoking), Coherence (cerebral), Auggie (sad/amusing), AI Rising (adult!), The Tangle (very talky, may need a couple watches).

Hearing "AI is rapidly advancing beyond its original purpose" is quite scary, considering people have plans to expand AI to make our lives easier

Very excited to see this one...will rent it. Those indie films needs all the support we can give.

Glad you are covering this film. I did a review for it on my channel about a month ago and loved it. But you have a much larger audience than me, and this deserves the kind of attention you can bring to it.

As a general norm, we are conditioned to fear technology. However, The Artifice Girl demonstrates how advancements can be vast and endearing without ignoring these technology risks.

I was already pretty curious about this movie. Hearing that you loved it and learning how hard this filmmaker worked got me to immediately pay to rent it. Gotta support independent filmmakers. I'm not far into it, but it has me extremely hooked in already, so I think I'm gonna love it too

Just right now finished this movie, after you recommended it. Blew my mind. It was so perfect. So sad, but beautiful and uplifting. I loved it all. Everything in this movie, how it was written directed, filmed, acted, and without a doubt the dialogue... this movie was poetry. I'm just sitting here thinking. That was awesome. It consumed me.

Yes yes yes! I was genuinely intrigued just by the synopsis alone. Found this on the front page of a streaming service I use and added it to the list for later. Now I will DEFINITELY be watching this within the next few days. Thanks for giving your honest opinion. Your videos are great and I've been a fan for many years.

I watched this film some time ago with no foreknowledge and it blew me away. I didn't even realise that Cherry was played by an actress, Tatum Matthews. So label me stupid.
It came to my attention again this week through a reviewer on YouTube and I watched it again. Unlike the first time, where I watched it with a clinical eye, this time I was brought to tears as soon as Cherry appeared. Why? Because now I understood the ''plot'' and was able to put my full attention on this wonderful young lady who is absolutely outstanding playing the role of an A.I.
From beginning to the very end she was incredible and it's a good job I don't vote on the Oscars (or is it?) because she'd have walked away with an Academy Award.
At the same time, she broke my heart, her performance was THAT good. If Franklin Ritch has other stuff about, I'm going looking for it.

I didn't have any expectations going into this film. I did appreciate both Her and ExMachina, for various reasons. Artifice Girl really surprised me in a positive way. At the end of the film, I was finding myself thinking about our own mortality, her sad childhood, how wise she had become, and happy for her to be free to explore whatever her future might throw at her. Humbling.
