I dispose of and replace my tires, brake pads, pedals, chain, cassette and all lines after each single ride. I learned this technique from a company that sells parts….

At 5:37 you removed the chain. Why not from the start, remove the chain? Drop your chain into a solvent and agitate it a bit. Before placing the chain back on the bike, you can stretch out the chain, then evenly apply the oil. The jockey wheels, cassette and chainring would be easier to access for cleaning. You would't need to buy a chain cleaning device.

For the longest time I thought that that (and other) chain cleaning contraption was just a gimmick....
But the last dry season was super tough and I got one (Park Tool)....

Best tool purchase ever. If you ride every day at a climate where muck happens every day. Well... get one.

BTW, I just run dishwasher soap in it. Hose it down. Dry. Lube. Done...

Also check for chain stretch on each clean to catch it early.

I don’t believe for a second you replace that quick link every single week/ride

Rather than creating all that metal waste by changing a quick link once a week, I run the degreaser in the chain bath, let it sit, clean the rest of the bike, then fill the chain bath with water or bike cleaner and run it through with that to wash off all the degreaser. 👍

Just did mine a few days ago, filthy job, always was, still is !🤠
I have a chain cleaner or two, never gets it all off, end up wasting time brushing off black residue until finally it's clean 😀
Try to dry it to find that it looked clean but is in fact still oozing black stuff, more cleaner, more brushing, get sick of the entire pain in the arse operation, use up more old pairs of pants trying to dry it, finally lube it, leaving it hanging over plastic pot to drain off. Refitted it, by now I've got sick of being covered in lube or wearing rubber gloves ( on/off, on/off ) use checker to find that the chains knackered so need to get a new one and a cassette and chain ring rendering all but the last bit entirely pointless and with a much lighter wallet.
Another good job done, an entire day wasted and remembering how I meant to get The Nexus hub and surely a belt drive would remove the entire crappy operation?🤣🤣

Before and after every ride seems a bit much though. Especially with the process you go through. I never remove my chain unless I'm putting on a new chain. Just clean it with the chain cleaner, wipe it dry with some shop towels, then lube. And I spin my chain way quicker than that. I'm too eager to get out and ride I guess.

I have some water / citric acid / bicarb mixture I use to fill up that chain bath - pop some regular wash in the top to drop feed through and the grime usually comes off first time. Dry it off with a rag and apply the lube. Can't be bothered to take the chain off especially If you need a new quick link each time (news to me). Three minutes and done.

I've had good results using spray cans of auto brake cleaner. Very quick process

Isnt the cleaner designet to clean best when rotating your cranks bacwards and not forward?

Parktool 5.3 bath can be run in either direct great for dealing with that freewheeling Ebike crank. You can just stick something in the ring thou like

Genuine question from an aged newbie. What about using motorcycle chain lube or chainsaw oil? Presumably heavy duty so good for ebikes, and non-fling formula. I await enlightenment.

you should backpedal the crank when you are using this chaincleaner, yes i know you cant do that on a e-bike, you simply use a ziptie to connect the crankarm to the chainwheel😊

Hi Chris, there are many different dry lubes even from MUC-off. Wich one is your recomandation? Thanks

It’s cheaper, easier and far less messy simply not touching your bike and putting it in the bike shop 4 times a year for a service. A quick wash down after each ride with a garden hose and a little lube is all you need between services. Muc off is silly money and in my job I have far better things to spend my free time on…….like riding the bike.

What is the tool called that you used to allow you to backpedal the chain? I have a e-bike and can’t backpedal to use the chain cleaning kit.

Don't forget to use the Muc-Off chain cleaner in the correct direction though - not like it was demonstrated here!

A little research on the right channel suggests Muc off is almost the worst chain oil.

can you successfully wash your cloth? Or is it being used a few times and then thrown away?
