I've been driving for about 34 years. I've been going to the full service gas stations. I only once tried to go to a self service gas station. I had no idea what to do. I asked the lady at the car ahead of me. She, too, didn't know. Anyway with the covid-lockdown, the gas attendants are off. I need to gas my car. I thought it was really embarrassing that I have to google YouTube for video demonstrations. Thanks!!

Take it from me, filling up the gas is serious business. Pay attention at the pump. If your car needs unleaded, be 100% sure you are using the unleaded nozzle and not the DIESEL nozzle. How you can tell: the unleaded nozzle will fit all the way inside your tank, the diesel nozzle probably won't fit through the hole on your tank, although it's still possible to hold the nozzle to the hole and fill it with diesel. Filling up with diesel instead of unleaded is going to cause possibly thousands of dollars in needed repairs. It happens more often than you'd think.

Check your car manual to see if you can use regular unleaded (87) or if you need premium unleaded. If your manual says you need premium, always use premium or you will damage your engine. If you don't need premium, you won't gain any performance or fuel economy from using premium, you'll just waste money. Also, always get a receipt (even if you have to go inside and ask for one) in case you end up getting "bad gas" (gas mixed with water, trash, too much ethanol, etc.) that causes your car to break down. Have the repair shop test the gas or save a sample. If you have the receipt you have proof of which station you got bad gas from so you can make a complaint, file it with your car insurance, etc.
