The White House says it is preparing additional “major sanctions” on Russia in response to opposition leader Alexei Navalny's death in an Arctic penal colony.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday that the new package would be unveiled this Friday. He declined to detail the new actions, citing U.S. government policy, or share how they would expand on the already stiff sanctions the U.S. and its allies have put on Russia in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine.

Kirby said only that the sanctions, which will coincide with the two year anniversary of Russia's invasion, will be "specifically supplemented with additional sanctions regarding Mr. Navalny's death.” (AP)

America prioritizes defending individuals in foreign lands over its own citizens. I would prefer that my tax money be allocated towards our children’s education rather than having them graduate with significant student loans and facing high living expenses.

How many sanctions do we have in our arsenal? Every time there’s a problem, there are new sanctions, like N Korea. Either pull out the big guns or just forget it.

Additional sanctions will only strengthen the drive for developing nations to further expand their participation in BRICS, as if others aren't already moving away from reliance on the dollar.

I think we've been lied to. It was my impression that all sanctionable items had been utilized. If so, where do these fit in

I'm sure Putin will be watching Biden's remarks on TV. To him, it'll be like watching old re-runs of "Laugh In".

Russian economy has strengthened since first sanctions at start of the war so these will probably just help it some more.

Because that did one bit of good to begin with. In the end all it does is hurt the U.S.
