I would like to imagine that Chief Tannabok knew that they weren't
really gods but he didn't care cause they did nothing but good things
for them by saving their city from invaders.

If you think about it, they were gods. And like what was prophesized, the "gods" came, stayed for awhile and departed. They saved the entire city of el dorado as well. They were gods in their own way.

I do feel bad for Miguel tho. He truly embraced El Dorado but the circumstances required him to sacrifice that to prevent a massacre and likely enslavement of the survivors that he truly cared about.

Miguel gave up El dorado to save Tulio, and Tulio gave up his gold to save El dorado. So, in a way they both made a sacrifice.
