The rich already have UBI via unearned incomes - interest, rents and dividends, many can live a life of pure leisure (though there is no such thing), so why should the Govt not support poor with some UBI like what the rich get? Why not? Dr.Singh has put up a solid arguments in favor. Bravo !!

An extremely thought provoking talk by Vikas.
It's not often that issues confronting people who live at the margins of society are the brought to centre stage. I agree with Vikas that the poor must be brought out from their wretched state as soon as possible, and UBI may be a solution.
My personal view is that if even a single country-man sleeps on a hungry stomach due to poverty, then it's a matter of shame for the entire country. Neither super GDP growth nor development in science & technology can cover up the scars of poverty.
Inclusive growth has sadly been elusive. Successive governments have done precious little to correct the increasing disparity in income levels. All this calls for a serious consideration at policy makers level on UBI.
Besides, there's also a view that the cost of funding UBI may not be greater than the cost inflicted on the economy by poverty.
