Sarah, as a diabetic myself, I can tell you that any high carbohydrate food will spike your blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates convert to sugar in your bloodstream. So, carbohydrates like rice and white potatoes will turn into sugar in your bloodstream. I still love sandwiches so I eat a bread that is 2 net carbs per slice making twi slices only 4 net carbs. Of course, you also have to add in whatever you put on the slices of bread. I’ve become quite good at reading the labels of food and estimating the amount of carbs I am putting in my system. Of course, I do indulge in different foods but only occasionally. I have had type 2 diabetes for the past 20 years and, so far, I am doing okay.

I was prediabetic before I got pregnant with my 3rd son. Body was shaking and I was sweating when I got hungry. I was addicted to food, especially sweets.
Suffered from PCOS and had menstruation once or twice a year only.
I did intermittent and extended fasting for 2 months. Problem solved.

I'm no longer shaking, can already tolerate hunger and my period is so normal.
Memory improved significantly despite having 3 CS delivery.

Try intermittent fasting people.

I am not pregnant, however, I got diagnosed with Pre diabetic/diabetic even though my A1C was 5.7-6.1. Both of my brothers are on insulin and one of my two brothers had their leg cut off. I am high candidate like you were saying. My doctor is sending in a referral for a Diabetes doctor and classes. Thank you so much for talking about this situation.

My A1C the first three months of my pregnancy was 5.5. I declined the glucola test and did a 1 week glucose test (4 times per day instead). My fasting blood sugar around 24 weeks were between 100-110 so my doctor diagnosed me with gestational diabetes. My post meal numbers were always below 120 after 1 hour. I ate about 50 grams of carbs per day and walked 6 miles per day. My doctor suggested I take Metformin at night for my fasting glucose. I refused and kept going with my routine. I am now 30 weeks and my fasting glucose are between 90-95. I still got ways to go but it’s looking good so far. Diet and exercise are better than medication because it fixes the root cause than just putting a bandaid on it. Try your best. It takes time to fix it but it’s fixable. This is my second gestational diabetes and my 4th child. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Tip: the order on how you eat your meal matters too. So always eat the fat and protein then eat the carbs. Big difference in blood sugar.

Switch to club soda with lemon. Bananas have a ton of sugar. I use barely cooked in chicken broth for rice. Freeze bread before using it cut the carbs by a quarter. Take berberine.

I’ve noticed that when I prick my finger on the side of the finger, rather than the finger tip, it hurts a lot less.
