This is an adaption is based on the what if sequel book by one of L. Frank Baum's (RIP) grandchildren. Many people confuse it as sequel to 1939 live action film starring Judy Garland (RIP) as Dorothy Gale but, it's not in the same universe and it's mostly references or, tributes to it. Also, yes Dorothy Gale looks like Judy Garland or, the first book but, originally, she was supposed to be blond but didn't happen until the second or, third book and onward when L. Frank Baum got a new artist to draw characters for him. But most people are used to Dorothy Gale having brown hair that Return To Oz kept that design from the first book as well despite being more accurate to her personality from books instead the teenager Dorothy mostly remember. It's the same with Journey Back To Oz or, Oz The Great And Powerful being mostly references or, tributes to 1939 film. Journey Back To Oz is also a musical like the 1939 and Legends Of Oz but, are more what if sequels and closer to L. Frank Baum's books that have been mostly adapted based on first three books The Wizard Of Oz, The Marvelous Land Of Oz And Ozma Of Oz.
