New news as of May 30 2023, from the same group, they have discovered a new monotile they call the "spectre" that tiles aperiodically using only translations and rotations, no reflections. (The "hat" you show here and another they call the "turtle" both require reflections.)

They updated their findings!!! Now there's a 14 sided shape called the spectre. The hat had to be mirrored in order to "not repeat, " but the spectre doesn't!
