Lyrics:
I set my sail
Fly the wind, it will take me
Back to my home, sweet home

Lie on my back
Clouds are making way for me
I'm coming home, sweet home

I see your star
You left it burning for me
Mother, I'm here

Eyes open wide
Feel your heart and it's glowing
I'm welcome home, sweet home

I take your hand
Now you'll never be lonely
Not when I'm home, sweet home

I see your star
You left it burning for me
Mother, I'm here

This would’ve been a great Easter Egg in Hades for when Zagreus learns how to play the lyre. :D

"I can see it now... The Kid in one corner, and Zulf in the other. Ain't much of a fight."

Been what, almost 8 years since we had to carry Zulf home through a rainstorm of arrows and this still takes me back. Funny how moments can stick with you.

I know it's suppose to be Zulf's theme, but the song always makes me picture the Kid returning from his first tour at the Wall only to find out that his mother has passed away.

I love how this scene is set up. Most of the mini-maps have ended in a miniboss, which leads you to think that there has to be a BBEG fight at the end. Think the Anklegator, the attack on the Bastian, ect.
But as we head toward this encounter, we're reminded that Zulf isn't big or bad. He's not a fighter, he's a diplomat. He's not doing this because he hates the Kid, he's doing this because the City he loved betrayed him. He could never have won against the Kid--it was suicide. And worse, Caelondia put him there. He wanted to save everyone. He loved Caelondia and it's people, he thought he was making a difference. But it didn't matter. They didn't care about "mercy"--heck, "The Mercy" is an memorial you earn by killing things.

By the time I found him there, I didn't want a fight. I wanted to show him that he was right to believe in mercy. I wanted to put down that annoying battering ram. But most of all, I just wanted to save someone. I was almost crying, just praying we could both make it out of there.

Thanks, Supergiant. It was beautiful

Kid stops noticin' the pain after a while. Can't dwell on it. Not with the burden on his back. The extra burden, I guess. Been carryin' too much weight ever since this all came to pass. Gods only know just how much. All he feels with each arrow is another pound on the pile. But he doesn't drop Zulf and shoot back. Kid just keeps goin'.

When the shootin' stops, Kid thinks for a minute that he's just dropped in the middle of the road and wound up wherever we go when our luck and time runs out. So why are the Ura still there? They just stand, bows dropped. Watchin'. Not waitin', exactly. Not gettin' ready for somethin' worse. Realises he can't question good fortune for too long in this new world. Keeps goin'.

One of 'em didn't get the memo, I guess. Takes a shot, as if it'll make a difference on top of all the arrows porcupinin' him already. Gets a brief 'n' terminal reprimand from his boss for it. Kid mighta glanced up at him for a sec. Mighta nodded, or just let his head sag under the pain and sheer godawful tiredness he's been feelin' ever since he started takin' arrows for a man he's every right to leave for the anklegators.

No more thinkin', now. Plate's just up ahead. Kid shifts Zulf's weight on his back a little. Doesn't look back. Doesn't push his luck. Just takes a mercy where he finds it.

And away the two of them go. Back home. Back to the Bastion.

When I first played this game I seriously thought I might not be able to save Zulf. I was concerned I would need some threshold for health or some kind of resistance or something. When the first arrows came it pretty much confirmed my suspicions. Then I realized they had stopped, I had a huge sigh of relief, only for another one to start shooting. Had the game bugged out? Was I about to die? Nope, his friend clobbers him for it. It was at that point I realized just how special of a game this was.

Beat Bastion for the first time yesterday. Can’t even begin to describe the feelings of slowly trading back to the bastion, Zulf slung over my shoulder, and seeing those first crossbow Ura come down. At first I think I can make it if I’m quick, but two more come down, and realize I’m probably not getting out this arrow storm alive. I know my health is low because I felt the werewhiskey kick in. I see a trio of pikemen guarding the exit and I know for a fact I’m not getting out of this. But then arrows stop firing, and one of the pikemen moves to the side. As I get closer the other two move as well. What’s left of the Ura are all gathered around, watching a half dead Caelondian carry a half dead Ura to safety. And that’s all they do. One tries to finish the job, but a stab in the back from one of his country men puts that idea to rest. In a one moment everyone realized how pointless it all was. There’s nothing left to fight, kill, or die for. The violence won’t undo the Calamity, killing this one man won’t solve anything, losing more people to Kid doesn’t gain anyone anything. All that can be done now is just wait, and watch them leave.

The whole scene left me speechless.

On every play through of bastion, I always spare Zulf. I never can sum up the strength to let him be

My mother passed away because of fatal cancer back in 2018... she just got 50 years old. Sometimes, I listen and sing to this song and start remembering the time I spend with her. This song still goes through my bones...

Leaving Zulf behind is a choice you have, but... I could never bring myself to do it, just the thought breaks my heart.

I just remembered this absolute gem. 13 years later and almost started crying while listening again.

I liked how the lyrics can have different context based on what happens with Zulf. Well doesn't matter because there is only one correct thing to do with poor Zulf.

Of all things, this makes me think of our dog.

He loved us all, but he was definitely my sister's dog. He wasn't exactly the brightest pup, but he was devoted and incredibly gentle, and more than anything else, he never wanted anything more than to be with his people, and for them to be happy. He'd come over and nudge us with his nose whenever a conversation got animated: even if we agreed with each other, he could sense that we were getting worked up, and wanted to make sure we were okay.

He gave us years longer than we had any right to expect from his breed, but that awful day still comes when you have to say goodbye.

Micia, known as Mother to the Ura, is believed to bring life into the world and welcome it back on death. This is quite literally Zulf singing his own dirge. Ever the drama queen lol.

I am proud to say that game was my childhood, and not many things can bring me to tears like its soundtrack

I first time played Bastion when I was a child. It's been over a ten year since. A lot of stuff in my life have drastically changed. I have changed. Yet, I still love this game from the bottom of my heart. I still think that it is, despite being imperfect, is unbelievably good. I still think that Supergiant Games is an incredible studio full of insanely talented people. And I still break to tears each time I hear this song. It's so emotional yet so simple, so powerful yet so humble and personal — just like the Bastion itself.
It is just a little but astonishingly beautiful tale about flying fortress, broken world and a random kid who is trying to save everything
