Enviro Close-Up #637: The Trump Nuclear Push
Kevin Kamps of Beyond Nuclear discusses how—as one headline puts it—“Trump Administration Spearheads International Push for Nuclear Power.” Kamps details how back in the U.S. the Trump administration is promoting nuclear power. He describes how the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, long a rubber stamp for the nuclear industry, is now even more a rubber stamp. He speaks of the combination of the nuclear industry and the federal government’s national laboratories. He blasts the scheme by the Trump administration to enable Saudi Arabia to have nuclear power explaining that this will lead to Saudi Arabia having atomic weapons.

Yes the nuclear energy industry has met a dead end. The industry took a wrong turn back in the 50's when we pursued reactor types based on solid fuels and pressurized water coolants. Fundamentally a bad idea and condemned the nuclear energy industry to be dangerous and noncompetitive. But now there are a dozen start up companies looking for funding and several government scientific research efforts looking at commercialization of another generation of reactors based on liquid fuels with much greater safety and economics. These reactors can save the planet, solar and wind the math is simple. Get informed and get busy forcing your governments to invest in nuclear R&D. This vid is full of misinformation and garbage. Seek out the facts!
