SCOTLAND - THE WORLD'S UNLUCKIEST NATION

Scotland are a nation who used to be regulars at World Cups & European Championships. They've now qualified for UEFA EURO 2020 but haven't been part of a tournament since the World Cup in 1998.

Past heroes such as Jock Stein & Alex Ferguson have led them to the world's biggest stages. But, it's their modern day hero, Steve Clarke who has guided them into EURO 2020. They kick off their EUROs campaign vs. Czech Republic in a few days. How far can the Scotland football team go in EURO 2020?

As you can see from 1950 and 54, the SFA has forever been absolutely useless and will never change. Good vid as always

Craig Burley holds two records. Last person to score for score for Scotland at a major tournament and also sent off at one. Cracking video as always Sam

It isn't just in football either. Got robbed of a place in the rugby world cup final in 2015 by some truly incompetent refereeing. Also had a very dodgy decision go against them in this years Six Nations in their game against Wales.

For me, this tourney comes down to how we start off. If we can win our opening game, then we have a real shout of progressing, even if we lose at Wembley(which i fully expect), i'd take a 1-0 or a 2-1 loss. Though i have a gut feeling we'll go into the final group game knowing a point could be sufficient should the result of England's final game work in our favour.
We'll get our point and there'll be injury time at Wembley. A last minute goal will knock us out on goal difference. We'll miss out on being one of the best 3rd place teams by a goal.

Would be a massive achievement if they qualify for the last 16, I think they will!

Fun fact - Joe Jordan has scored for Scotland in three world cup finals, against Zaire in 1974, Peru in 1978 and USSR in 1982. They should have qualified from their first round groups at least twice, 1978 and 1990. The Willie Johnstone affair in 1978 (failed a drugs test) and 1990 losing to Costa Rica (seriously, HOW??), but they've also has some horrible bits of luck. Remember Alan Hansen and Willie Miller colliding against Russia in 1982? Gary Mcallisters penalty in 1996? (I was right next to the Scotland fans that day) Best of luck Scotland!

The thing is, the results Scotland achieved in 74, 78, 82, 90 and 96 have been sufficient for other teams to progress in the past. Two examples are Northern Ireland and North Korea. Northern Ireland got out of the group having lost two out of three games in 2016, North Korea did it in 1966 with a win, a draw and a loss. The results elsewhere have simply never fell in Scotland’s favour

Realistically Sam, the only tournament we were really unlucky in was 1974 imo. In the others we either bottled it (1978 springs immediately to mind, when we were genuinely good enough to reach the later stages, but were far too complacent against Peru and Iran) or simply weren't good enough.
