I grew dahlias from seed last year and they all formed tubers and started blooming in the pots and ground where they over wintered for 7 weeks now. I don’t have a flower farm but have a very large city lot and I planted 134 dahlia tubers and 6 trays of seed dahlias. Can’t wait to see your dahlia field in bloom. Thanks

If you pinch the top of your dahlias you get more branching and more flowers. It may take a little longer to bloom but the amount of flowers is worth it.

Painted mine, because I use WAY less than you, with chalkboard paint, and used a paint pen. I like the look of black marker.

Who sat up straight when Nicole said I’m slouching.? Yes, Mom.

Great hack - I've seen someone pain these with blackboard paint and use chalk markers - look lovely n reusable

That’s so funny, I use paint stirring sticks as labels too, Patrick actually suggested it when we were in Lowe’s one day and I was like “I knew I kept you around for a reason”

If you paint the sticks with chalkboard paint you can label with a chalkboard marker and reuse them. I’m experimenting with this. It’s supposed to last through weather.

I've been using paint sticks for years. But I found out here in the south termites eat them up and changed to metal labels.

A few months back I commented that I was going to try to find the dahlia seeds I got a few years ago and yes! I found them, started them in plug trays in my garage greenhouse and I got about 75% germination. I was so happy! So they've been hardened off, ready to go out and ... there are TWO bumblebee nests in my community garden plot where I planned to put the dahlias. Thwarted! I'm leaving the bees be, because I can't move them and I'm not killing them (even though they seem to hate me a little), so now I'm looking around frantically at my yard if there's a sunny spot to put my 4 dozen dahlia babies. I'll make it work, somehow.

I used paint sticks last year to mark plants. I also overdid it by using a wood burning tool to write the plant names, which was a waste of time; Paint sticks won't really last more than a season, at least for me. I tend to step on them because I'm so careful and graceful when I garden and not at all like an inebriated rhino.

I hope the sticks last longer than popsicle sticks. Mine rotted . I'm going to try it. Great idea

I had to pop on here and tell you!!., I have a ton of Columbines popping up everywhere... everywhere but where I planted them. 😋 idc., they’re beautiful and thriving. They even started growing under my watering hose. Hubby was trampling them until I seen their leaves and I was like Ohhh No!
So I put in a garden under my watering hose. 😂 bordered with rocks. And he was told. 😋
Keep growing! 🌱🙏🏻

I don’t know I want the most. A pride of feral cats, a session with The Ripper or those sunflowers!

I planted my very first dahlia tuber this year because of your enthusiasm for them. It was a leftover bag from ALDI. I don’t recall the name or what I did with the packaging. It’s doing pretty good so far. THEN, I bought a blooming dahlia last week. Growing them in pots, because I will be more likely to pull the tubers from those than digging them up out of the ground.
