Confirmed Water Vapor Plumes On Europa: Could Life Exist On Jupiter's Moon?

There are many hopes for life on other planets, and for places where humanity can live, but now, an unlikely candidate has just put forth a hope that we can live there, the moon known as Europa. Join us a we explore what's going on!

8. What Is Europa?
If you don't know what Europa is we'll be happy to explain it to you. Basically, it's one of the many moons of Jupiter. Jupiter has the most moons in the solar system with 79, and this particular one is one of the bigger ones, and one that has had the eyes of scientists for a long time. Mainly because it has certain things that make it special. Mainly, ice.

7. Water Vapor In the Air
In the later part of November, international scientists that were studying Europa found something rather incredible, they found definitive confirmation that there was water vapor in the air just above the surface of the moon. Given that the atmosphere of the moon is thin and made mainly of Oxygen, that would prove that this water vapor came not from it, but from the ground.

6. How Does Water Vapor Mean So Much?
I'm sure after hearing that quote and hearing about the joy that this discovery has made scientists you're likely very confused about why this is so important as a whole. Does water vapor truly mean so much for life? Does finding it really make Europa a place where humanity can colonize in the future?

5. Could We Really Colonize On Europa?

4. The Mars Solution
Let's talk about one of those problems really quick. Mainly, the way we'd get to Europa at all. As I just explained, the moon is in Jupiter's orbit, which means that right now it's REALLY far away from Earth.

3. Titan
If you think that humanity is only focusing on one moon to colonize on, you would be wrong. Because the other major moon that we're aiming to colonize potentially is Titan. Which is one of the many moons on the planet of Saturn.

2. Why The Search For Multiple Potential Hospitable Places To Live?
So at present, humanity has ideas that Mars, Europa, and Titan (among others of course) could be viable places for humanity to live on, in one way or another.

1. The Future Of Europa
So, with the big discovery of Europa's water vapor...where does that leave us? What is the next step for the moon and its potential for life and habitation? That would be the Europa Clipper mission.

Don't forget, the temperature on these otherworldly moons is cold enough to flash freeze a person in a split second. It takes lots of energy to create heat.

I understand finding water on other planets is exciting, and makes us think we might be able to colonize those planets, but it's only water, in most cases not in liquid form.. and we don't know what other contaminates are in those extra-terrestrial lakes and ice caps. We should focus more on saving our natural home instead of trying to go live on a rock with a pond, and no oxygen. We CANNOT terraform other planets. It just isn't possible for us, we are too small and insignificant to effectively shape a planets atmosphere. Even if we could, we would likely have to use a majority of Earth's precious recourses, and it would take multiple generations and hundreds, if not thousands of years to notice a small difference in a planets change in atmosphere.

In our lifetime we will see much more detail facts about Titan, Wouldn't be surprise if there is more Water/ Ocean there.

Isn't there deadly radiation from Jupiter?

There is ice at the lunar south pole. You can use solar power on the moon.

100 percent there's life there and on Mars. Life finds a way

Not really unlikely. Arthur C Clarke suggested the possibility in 2061: Odyssey 3

Massive problems. How about heat without melting the ice under you and ending up in the liquid water. Massive amounts will be needed just to keep alive. Where do you get such amounts of energy from as you cannot just put up a windmill, or solar panel. If the people there ran out of energy for any reason they would all be dead very quickly. ?>?? Lots of things to figure out before going into such cold.

I'm sorry, the radiation is so extreme from Jupiter I believe there is zero chance for life on any of it's moons.

The fossilisation found to rovers to confirm theories of evolution, probably however the entire universes scale and galactic unified theory seems definable by this rather small species we are, probably alone for quite awhile with others finding it difficult to be revived, the last of everything within this system of others how can anyone judge it's intelligence and astrophysical properties. The clippers a good mission objective maybe its best to orbit for as long as possible, the possibilty being a source of hydrogen for the hopefully nuclear fuel cell.Maybe Voyagers reactor is comparative to superceed expectations as explained in the movies.
