I've spent a lot of time doing this! I love hitting random notes and playing guitar like it's a drum kit, focusing on the rhythm, techniques, and the dynamics rather than the notes. I've come up with some of my best stuff like that, just letting myself go at it without worrying about whether or not it makes a good melody sometimes makes a good melody by accident! I love building from something small and innocent, maybe sad or wistful into something crazy up to a fever pitch and nailing some kind of cathartic note or chord or whatever right at the end that is as unexpected to myself as it would be to anyone else.

Which would you rather do? Take 4 years at Berklee, or take tips from someone who took 4 years of music school at Berklee smashing keys and playing detuned guitars for inspiration?


I suppose I'll try the second. Even if I don't magically get better at any instrument, it's surely less expensive!
