Please do more of these videos. Maybe history of 500? Roman Empire? Or even something obscure?

An excellent review of material that was obscured in my high-school days during the 50's.

The Japanese were well aware of nuclear weapon potential of fissionable uranium. The Japanese ran out of time in their development of nuclear weapons when the United States nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

One of the reasons we took Iwo Jima was for an airbase to land damaged B-29s and launch escorts for the bombers.

All the Purple Hearts we have in inventory were produced in anticipation of an invasion of mainland Japan. We made 500 THOUSAND.

The Manhattan project was so secretive, Truman didn't even know until he was sworn in after Roosevelt died.

I'd love to see a parallel series to this one focusing on the political intrigue and motivations for specifically the larger moves made.  I'm particularly interested in hearing the politics of Russia and the United States surrounding the Pacific theatre.

Okinawa was supposed to be the staging area and jumping off point for the invasion of japan had the Japanese not surrendered after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This would have been the main logistical staging base as well for this operation. This is because the other nearest American bases were well over 1500 miles away at guam and then midway. Iwo Jima really only had an airfield at the time and wasn't really a major naval base for the americans.

Even though V-Day is May 8th in Europe, it was celebrated in Russia on May 9th, because of the time difference between the countries.

Sal, you showed how bloody some battles are with lots of deaths then you mentioned the atomic bombing casually as if it hadn't burned 250, 000 civilians instantly.
