Unitronic Stage 1+ Misfire on Audi A4 B9 2.0T

This video was provided to Unitronic to get assistance in diagnosting my 2019 Audi A4 misfiring intermittently during WOT (wide open throttle) pulls in 3rd or 4th gear with Unitronic’s Stage 1 Plus tune. Check engine fault codes showed misfires on cylinders 1, 2, and 3.

In this video, I was using the stock OEM A4 coil packs and OEM RS7 spark plugs pre-gapped to 0.024”. The RS7 spark plugs are one heat range colder and gapped tighter, but I was still getting severe misfires.

UPDATE (3/4/2022): I have reached out to Unitronic to get support and will report back on the solution.

Since it’s warm outside the car performs perfect on every gear, lunch control is spot on! Love the tune. In winter don’t push the car and everything is perfect. No need for performance coils or spark plug. 👍

Hey man I’m having the same exact problem I’m using IE stage 2 same noise and code that pops up, I haven’t replaced my spark plugs or coil packs but I do have upgraded APR coil pack and Colder plugs did these over a year ago, how did you fix your issue no CEL until I make it do this by flooring it like you did,

This video was shared to Unitronic for troubleshooting. After sharing this video, I have received numerous people contacting me that run the Unitronic tune reporting this type of misfire during COLD weather while performing a WOT pull (e.g. passing a car or merging on the highway). Using Unitronic's data logger, I found there is significant knock on cylinder 3 during a pull in COLD weather. In warm weather, there is no knock or timing pull on any cylinder.

Did you ever have any further problems once switching to IE stage 1 tune?

Change plugs and oil, ensure the plugs are gapped correctly (contact Unitronic and see if the gap would be different for performance on the tune). Also, did you have any codes pop up when doing the flash process? Sometimes these codes can cause performance issues.

I have the same exact tune on my 2016 A6 2.0T, but this is the first time I'm hearing the negative effect of the tune. I have put on 30, 000 miles with that Stage 1+ tune and running good so far. Let us all know what happens and good luck! And whose Audi A6 is in your Youtube channel banner?

Before it misfired did it feel stuttery/jerky at the 3200/4000 rpm range because I just got APR stage 1 yesterday and this is happening too me roo

I tried this morning, pedal to the flor, and the car is still dowing the problem. I have tcu stage2 unitronic and the car seems to forget to shift and problem appears even if new spark plugs.

Other than that i love the tune but dont like the problem i still have. I will wait for warm weather to test again.

I have cracked 2 sets of plugs and mine was real jerky around 3200 to 4000 rpm I also have the upgraded coils and plugs but it’s only happened in the colder weather I have been on ies stage 1 tune and just recently went FBO stage 2 about to go stage 3 lol just be careful can blow your shit but makin it do that

That’s no good man. I had an APR tune on mine, but it was more Ping/knock. Nekminit, blown engine / cylinder 4 cracked
