If we have a glimpse of the world map, we will find Antarctica right here. Antarctica is the world's fifth largest continent and twice the size of Australia. But the question is which country actually has ownership of Antarctica.
As several countries started their expeditions to explore Antarctica, they started to claim the portions of Antarctica. For instance, New Zealand, Australia, France, Norway, the UK, Argentina, and Chile are the countries, that claim most of the land of Antarctica.
But a treaty signed between 12 countries on 1 December 1959 changed everything. According to the treaty, mining, nuclear testing, and any kind of military activity is illegal on the land of Antarctica, Antarctica is open only for the scientific research, and the results of those research must be mutually shared
To make the long story short, till the expiration of the Antarctic Treaty, Antarctica is just like the moon and sun. It can be harassed in a controlled manner by any country but no one has any sort of ownership rights over it.
