Portal RTX On AMD RX 6500 XT- Making 1 FPS (Almost) Playable!

Today we're going to try and make Portal RTX playable on the AMD RX 6500 XT, a low-end graphics card that that will run this upgraded game at just 1 frame-per-second at native 1080p.

This is ray tracing / patch tracing as you've never seen it before, and probably never want to see again.

Man watching all of that reminds me when around 2015 when I saw minecraft shaders was a thing, I would really force shaders on minecraft and play on 480p, it was so blurry but...so glorious. My card was a GT 210 back then, with old dual core cpus, I forgot what it was, and a mountainous 2 gigs of RAM.

RTX has been out a number of years now, but it needs powerful PC’s from the future, to make it universally usable and acceptable. Basically, it’s 10 years before it’s time.

RTX seems a good way to turn games into slideshows, to try and convince gamers that the improved visuals are worth paying $1000+ for a GPU. Just when GPU prices are becoming more sane, everybody is getting greedy again, and scalpocypalypse 2.0 will begin.

Whats sad is that, to get the game to work, you had to lower the settings so much that the game now looks similar to the n64 portal demake.

I enjoyed beating Portal RTX on 720p windowed with DLSS set at performance. I heard you can open the advanced developer menu and turn down a bunch of settings that only 4000 series RTX cards can use and just hinder performance for the rest.

There is absolutely some ini tweaks you can do to improve the framerate further, Nvidia set some sample counts way too high that you can lower still.
